Helpful Hints for Planning Your Wedding

On what side of the church does the brides’ family sit?

           

In most formal weddings the bride's family & friends are seated on the left side of the aisle and the groom's family & friends are on the right.

 

Our church has more than one center aisle how do I go about seating etc.?
 

If the church as two center aisles you should pick one aisle and run the whole wedding as if it were the only aisle available.

 

At the bridal couples reception table on what side does the bride sit?
           

At the bride and groom's table the bride is seated on the groom's right.

 

What is a chapel train?

Its trails three and one half to four and one half feet from the waist.
 
How many ushers do we need?

Depending on the size of your wedding there normally should be one usher for every 50 guests.  An average formal wedding is four to six bridesmaids and ushers. 
 
Do we need to have the same amount of ushers and bridesmaids?

You need not have the exact same about of ushers as bridesmaids.
 
Who pays the person who performs our ceremony?

The groom should hand the envelope for the officiant fee to the best man who in turn gives it to the officiant.
Who cuts the first piece of cake?

The bride, with the groom's right hand over hers.

Who should host the rehearsal dinner?
 
The groom's parents traditionally do the honors.  Though almost anyone can host this dinner.

 

When is it held?
 
It is usually held the night before the wedding. Participants usually go     directly from the church or ceremony site to the dinner.  However, you can schedule the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner two to three days before the wedding.  This is a particularly good idea if your ceremony is early in the morning.  This will allow for all to be well rested.
 
Who should be there?
           
Attendants, immediate family members, spouses of married attendants,   parents of children in the wedding and the officiant and his/her spouse.
 
Does it need to be formal?

No.  Backyard barbecue, potluck buffet, wine and cheese party or a       grand meal in a fancy  restaurant...whatever you are comfortable with.
 
Its 12 months before my wedding day.  What should I be doing?

Purchase your wedding planner and memory album. Talking about the wedding budget and style and colors.  Everything from the cake to the flowers and dresses. Select attendants. Decide on wedding and reception sites, book caterer, photographer, videographer, florist and DJ or musicians etc.
 
What about catering?
           
      What is an American Plate Service?
           
The food is arranged on plates in the kitchen and then presented to  seated guests.
 
What is English Service?
           
It is a buffet from which guests may help themselves.
 
What is French Service?
           
Food is presented and then carved, boned, flambéed or otherwise finished
by tableside waiters.

 

What time of day for a most formal wedding?

Evening, usually beginning around 6 p.m. Consider the type of photos you would like, and the setting of your ceremony.



I want a different kind of place for a ceremony. What other places could I select for my ceremony?

Perhaps a yacht, sports arena, roller rink, ice-skating rink, beach, ski slope, fire station,     mansion, beach, mountain, the possibilities are endless….be creative!


Any special considerations for those sites?
           
You should consider the comfort of your guests, permits, fees, parking space, privacy, weather etc.

What documents do we need for a marriage license usually?
 
Birth certificate, proof of citizenship, identification, blood test if required, parental consent if underage.  If you have been married before you will need a divorce decree.  If you’re a widow you will need a death certificate.
